Summer Composed For You

There are only three more months left until PMI 2022 and we can’t wait! This year, we have an exciting lineup of programs taught by world-class instructors. Keep reading to learn more about what we have in store.

Solo & String Quartet

SSQ

Do you play the violin, viola, or cello? If so, Solo and String Quartet (SSQ) is the program for you! Through SSQ, you can learn chamber music through performance opportunities and individualized instruction from a group of inspiring faculty. The program is led by violinist Ignace “Iggy” Jang, who teaches at the University of Hawaiʻi and Punahou School and is the Concertmaster of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra.

Symphony Orchestra

Percussion

We are so excited to bring back our Symphony Orchestra program this year! The Symphony Orchestra is open to intermediate and advanced orchestral string, wind, brass, and percussion students. There is no better way to hone your skills than to learn under the instruction of PMI Artistic Director Joseph Stepec and NOI+F Director Richard Scerbo. You will also have sectional time with Orchestral Learning Alliance (OLA) Teaching Fellows from the mainland!

Wind Ensemble

Oboe

Another program we’re bringing back this summer is our Wind Ensemble! The full band program is conducted by the former University of Hawaiʻi Director of Bands, Grant Okamura. There is also a one-hour instrument intensive where you can learn techniques unique to your instrument from the best faculty in Hawaiʻi.

Jazz Intensive

Drumset

If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toes into the world of jazz, we have the perfect program for you – Jazz Intensive! Under the guidance of Director of HYS Jazz, Dean Taba, notable session musicians, and local legends, you can experience a high quality jazz education, even without any prior jazz experience. The program also includes an optional daily jam session if you want a fun and informal way to step up your jazz game.
