For Violinists, Violists, and Cellists, ages 9-19

The Solo and String Quartet (SSQ) offers dedicated students an emphasis on chamber music, private lessons and performance opportunities. Led by program director Ignace “Iggy” Jang, the students are encouraged to thrive under the guidance of an outstanding and inspiring faculty.

Younger students, as well as those enrolled in Summer School, follow a customized schedule.

Students enrolled in SSQ are encouraged to apply to the ensuing String Orchestra or Symphony Orchestra programs (July 5 – 12, 2020) to fully benefit from the Pacific Music Institute.

Location

PMI SSQ is set in one of the world’s most unique and inspiring setting, the island of Oahu, home of Honolulu. The capital is the State’s urban hub, rich in history and famous for its scenic beauty, from Waikiki to the North Shore’s Sunset Beach.
Classes take place at the Hawaii Convention Center, with performances held at UH Manoa Orvis Auditorium and other venues.

  • 12:00 pm: Lunch
  • 1:15 pm: Masterclass, Private Lesson or Technique Class
  • 2:15 pm: Chamber Music Coaching, Private Lesson or Practice
  • 3:00 pm: Released for the day or Rehearsals, TBD
  • Evening: Released, Rehearsals or Performances, TBD
Please note: the PMI SSQ schedule will accommodate younger students as well as those attending summer school.

Dormitory Lodging
On-campus Room & Board available at Hale Aloha, 2571-2583 Dole St., Honolulu, HI 96822. Supervision provided by PMI. PLEASE NOTE: request must be made during the application process on Acceptd, and submitted no later than April 3.
