Placement Video Requirements
This is NOT an audition! Just record a short video to help us determine which ensemble is the best fit for you. Do the best you can!
When recording, please make sure your face and instrument is clearly visible. High fidelity audio/video quality is not necessary.
While this is NOT an audition, students may not be accepted if they don’t meet the general expectations of a student with the appropriate years of experience. Top performers may also be selected to play in select ensembles.
Music educators, you may find it easier to distribute all the excerpts to your students in these combined PDFS.

Due to increased safety protocols, there are very limited spots available. While the city is currently in Tier 3 of its reopening strategy, enrollment will be extremely limited. We are optimistic about moving to Tier 4 by July and will accordingly open up available spots for students.
Hawaii Youth Symphony is proud to be able to offer assistance to students, so that any interested Hawaii student may participate, regardless of financial ability. More information about the Financial Aid program is available at our website.
Need-based financial aid is made possible through generous donations from individual Hawaii Youth Symphony donors and the Michael Nakasone Legacy Fund In Honor of Youth Symphony II by Olivia de Jane.
Although financial aid awards come in a variety of amounts, depending on demonstrated need, families should expect to pay at least 50% tuition. HYS does not make any full-tuition awards. Financial aid funding is limited, and we are unable to make awards to every applicant. Financial aid is only available to Hawaii residents. PMI does not provide travel assistance for out of state students.
All in-person programs will be held at the spacious Hawaii Convention Center.
