PMI 2022 was a great success! This year, we had students join us from 59 schools, as well as an incredible lineup of top-class instructors. They participated in six fun programs – Jazz Intensive, Solo & String Quartet, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, ʻUkulele Workshop, and Middle School Honor Band.
New at PMI!
Tuning in to the return of live music
For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, we had fully in-person classes and concerts. It was great to see all of our students and faculty, as well as their family and friends who came to support them. We also brought back our large wind ensemble! The band was conducted by former University of Hawaiʻi Director of Bands, Grant Okamura.
More strumming with local legends
Our ‘Ukulele Workshop, which was first introduced to PMI last year, was extended from 3 days to 5, with both beginner and intermediate level offerings. The program was taught by two incredibly talented local musicians – Kalaʻe Camarillo and Mika Kane.
A round of applause for our middle schoolers, please!
We were excited to co-host the Middle School Honor Band for the first time! An exemplary group of 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students were selected by their schools’ band director to participate in the program. Wayne Fanning of Niu Valley Middle School and Guy Lum of Kawananakoa Middle School led the honor band.
A weekend of concerts
We closed out our week-long camp with a series of concerts! First up was our Faculty and Friends Concert on July 22. Our team of instructors is made up of world-renowned performers and educators. It was a treat to have them come together for a night of musical enjoyment!
On July 23 and 24, students from our six programs participated in our student concerts. This was an opportunity for them to show their friends and family everything they learned at PMI. We are so proud of all of our students for the hard work they put into preparing for their performances!
